DATE: Seventeenth to twentieth century
An Anglo Indian extending dining table with carved legs from British Khaki (New York). The painting is by Marcel Gromaire and the chairs are Paul Frankl. Fanny Brice supplied them for the client's Holmby Hill house and we moved them East. Vaudeville/film star Brice became a decorator. And I quote, "If they want blue and I want green, they get effing green."

The V and A has the greatest collection of Anglo Indian furniture and decoration outside of India. Victoria was created Empress of India in 1876 so she got some good stuff. This lecture transcript of author Christy Campbell's discussing her book, 'The Maharaja's Box,' tells the tale of exiled Sikh Maharaja Dalep Singh, who gifted Victoria with the Koh I nor diamond.

"The History of British India"
Samina Inc. (London) is the go-to place for a diamond encrusted spittoon - first I saw it in Mumbai at her father's shop, then I saw it in New York at the International Fine Art and Antiques Dealer Show (Autumn, New York). My comment that it would be 'the perfect dressing table lamp' (which it would) was met with a look of pure distain. After my client bought a string of emerald beads, the look got nicer.
